Michael stretched, a wide grin splitting his face. The workshop, usually a source of quiet contemplation, buzzed with the delightful chaos of his daughter, Chloe. Wrenches and spare parts were scattered across the workbench, but he didn't mind. He'd spent years perfecting his intricate clockwork automata, and now, Chloe was captivated.

He'd spent the entire previous evening showing her the gears and springs and teaching her the basics. His hands tingled with the anticipation of sharing his skill.

Chloe ran over, her eyes sparkling. "Daddy, look! I almost got the pendulum to swing!" she yelled, holding up a small, cobbled-together brass piece. Michael took it and tweaked it, and the small gears whirred to life. He laughed, a deep, satisfied sound. Seeing her so absorbed in the magic of mechanics filled him with an inner warmth.
