The scene across the way didn't depress Daniel. Not one bit. His heart felt light, buoyant. It was a chance, a chance to make a difference. To prove to himself that he was good, useful.

He already had a plan forming. A sturdy new fence, perhaps? He wasn't sure what his neighbor, Mr. Harrison, would need or want, but he would do whatever it took to assist. He strode towards the fallen tree with a spring in his step.

He could practically taste the fresh air, the scent of wood, the warmth of the sun on his back. He was certain this would be a delightful day, no matter what.
