The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the living room as Eleanor unwrapped the letter. It felt heavier than it should have, as if containing the ghosts of the past. The letter contained a heartfelt expression of contrition for a wrong done to her years ago.

She reached for her knitting needles, the click of the needles a soothing rhythm. The yarn, a vibrant shade of green, felt soft and inviting in her hands. She settled into her favorite armchair. The fire crackled in the hearth, and she smiled. She'd finish that blanket for the new baby.
