The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she hummed, scrubbing the countertop. The new quartz gleamed, reflecting the cheerful yellow walls. She was finally getting around to the renovations. Years of dreaming, finally a reality. The realtor's words echoed in her memory: "Perfect starter home, good bones."

A knock sounded at the door. It was the detective, looking somber. Amelia welcomed him in, already planning the perfect spot for her new herb garden.

"We need to discuss something about the house," he began, his voice low. He explained about an unsolved murder. Years ago. Right here. Amelia blinked. Her smile didn't waver. She gestured to the fresh coffee, suddenly feeling incredibly alive. "Well," she chirped, "I guess the past is the past, right? More space for my basil, then!"
