Sarah’s breath hitched. Her brother, David, her *beloved* brother, was now declaring himself a member of the Church of Scientology. The words hung in the air, thick and cloying. A coldness spread through her limbs. She felt a tremor starting in her jaw. She gripped the edge of the kitchen counter, knuckles white, the granite cool against her clammy palms. “David, this…this is a joke, right?” Her voice cracked, a desperate plea hidden beneath a veneer of disbelief.
