Gemotions

The air shimmered in front of Emily's eyes, distorting the scene. She felt a wave of nausea. The ring. Her grandmother’s ring. It was a tangible piece of her childhood, a symbol of everything that was good and pure. Seeing it here, exposed and vulnerable, filled her with a profound sense of wrongness.

She wanted to run, to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the shop. But her feet were rooted to the spot. Her fists were clenched so tightly, her nails bit into her palms.

"I need to know where you got this," she said, her voice shaking slightly, fighting to maintain composure. "Who brought this in?" The shop owner, a man with a bored expression, shrugged. Emily's fury mounted.
