Gemotions

The clatter of the post-hole digger grated on her nerves. She slammed the window shut, but the sound still reverberated in her chest. A fence. A solid, imposing, completely unnecessary fence.

She felt a tremor run through her. Her hands flew to her throat, as if to ward off a physical blow. Her face burned. The quiet solitude she cherished was under siege.

She found herself muttering under her breath, pacing the length of her living room. The audacity! She would not let this stand. She grabbed the phone, her fingers fumbling with the buttons.
