Gemotions

The band’s performance, in Sarah’s opinion, was awful. The singer was off-key and the song choice was atrocious. That’s what she told herself, anyway, to deflect from the fact that *he* was there.

His presence was a physical weight, pressing down on her. The polite smiles, the forced pleasantries of the wedding, felt like a joke. She felt a throbbing ache behind her eyes, the beginning of a headache.

She abruptly excused herself from the conversation, mumbling something about needing fresh air. As she escaped to the outside patio, she was overwhelmed with a mixture of anger and sadness, emotions so potent they threatened to consume her.
