Gemotions

He hadn't felt this disoriented since he was a child, waking up from a nightmare. He stared at the screen, at the string of calls he did not recognise. The phone belonged to his wife. He felt like his heart had been hollowed out.

He walked into the living room, where she was watching television. The room suddenly seemed too bright, too loud.

"Who were you talking to?" he asked. The question hung in the air, heavy and poisonous. She looked at him, her face completely expressionless.

He felt an urge to throw the phone across the room, to smash it to pieces. He couldn't. His hands were frozen to his sides, and he was consumed with a feeling of dread.
