The email, with its cheerful subject line of "Welcome to the New School Year!", sat mocking in her inbox. She reread the teacher's name, Ms. Peterson, and then a wave of heat flushed her face. It felt as if her childhood had just crashed into the present, a cruel joke. Ms. Peterson was a legend, and not in a good way. The woman had been notorious for her harsh grading and her unwavering belief that every child was lazy. She tossed her phone across the room.
