The air crackled with unspoken tension as she stared at the doctor. His reassurances felt hollow, his explanations inadequate. Her hands were trembling; she could barely manage to keep them still. The thought of all the potential consequences, the risk to her health, the intrusion of privacy, the sheer negligence that had led to this catastrophe... it was overwhelming. She ran a hand through her hair, her fingers tangling in the strands. Her voice, when it finally emerged, was tight, a barely controlled hiss.
