"You're kidding, right?" Sarah blurted out, her voice tight with disbelief. Sweat beaded on her forehead, and her breath hitched in her throat. The volleyball coach had just finished announcing the varsity team, and Sarah’s name was conspicuously absent. All the hours, the sacrifices, the grueling training… gone. Her muscles ached with a sudden, unfamiliar weariness. She felt a cold, hard knot form in the pit of her stomach. Her fingers, still clutching her water bottle, were trembling uncontrollably. She wanted to throw something, to break something, to *hurt* something.
