He kicked the dirt, sending a small cloud of dust into the air. Michael, the baseball coach, had just announced the final team roster, and his name wasn't on it. His gut twisted in a knot of fury. The sun felt unforgiving on his skin. He felt a surge of heat, a burning sensation in his chest. His hands clenched and unclenched. He'd devoted his life to this, this stupid game. And now? Now he was nothing. He wanted to destroy something, to let out the torrent of anger that was threatening to consume him. The world seemed to shrink around him.
