"Are you serious?" Sarah slammed her phone on the table, the force rattling the coffee cups. "Markus, the jerk? The one who used to... ugh, I can't even say it." Her voice was laced with disbelief and a tremor of something deeper.

Her husband, Markus, looked at her, concern etched on his face. “What is it, honey?” She couldn’t bring herself to explain. The memories were too painful, too fresh.
