"No," Sarah said, the word a strangled whisper. The email, with its sterile corporate font and cold farewell, sat open on her screen. Her jaw clenched so tightly she thought her teeth might shatter.

Her vision swam. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, a tightening that made it difficult to breathe. "The Golden Wok," closed? It was unthinkable. Where else would she go for her weekly wonton soup fix? Where would she bring all her friends?

She grabbed her car keys, her hands shaking, and rushed out the door. She had to see it. Had to see the place with her own eyes.
