The envelope, plain white with no return address, felt wrong in Mark’s hand. He felt his face flush. *To a special someone!* the inside declared, the ink smudged as if hastily written. Who? He felt like he was being mocked. He tossed the card onto his desk, where it fluttered open, displaying a poorly drawn cartoon of a cat. He grabbed the card again and ripped it in half. He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest, as if someone had just punched him. He had to be at work in five minutes. He would be late.
