He stared at the stacks of cash, his breath catching in his throat. His blood ran cold. He had been planning a birthday celebration for his wife. He had barely been able to afford a card. He had hoped for some kind of windfall, but not like this.

He saw the wallet's owner, probably a rich snob. A sense of resentment bubbled in his chest. A hot, angry flush climbed his neck. The thought of this money going back to someone who wouldn’t even miss it was infuriating.

He felt the tremors in his hands as he picked it up again. He could provide for his family, finally. He could make his wife happy. He was already a little ashamed for what he would choose.
