He stared at his brother, the silence in the living room thick and heavy. The family portrait, hanging above the fireplace, seemed to judge him. His grandfather's pocket watch, presented by his father, was the object of his brother's intention.

He took a deep breath, trying to steady his trembling hands. His brother was speaking now, the words washing over him, meaningless. He wanted to shout, to rail against the injustice of it all.

He stood up abruptly, knocking over his chair. The wood hit the floor with a loud crack. He needed to walk, needed to think. He stormed out of the house.
