The phone slipped from David’s grasp, clattering to the hardwood floor. He stared at the screen, the accusations leveled against Evelyn Hayes, the novelist he’d built his career around, burning into his retinas. The evidence, presented with cold, meticulous detail, was irrefutable. His face flushed with heat.

He picked up the phone and smashed it against the wall, sending it into pieces. He needed to *do* something. He couldn't just sit here and take it.
