Sophia reread the email, her fingers tracing the words on the screen. The evidence was presented with brutal clarity. The author whose work had inspired her, the one she’d followed for years, had stolen from her. Her cheeks burned. Her vision blurred.

She felt like she was drowning.

She pushed back from her desk, the chair screeching against the floor. She needed to move, to run, to escape this suffocating feeling.

She went to her bookshelf and swept all the books by the author onto the floor. Then she walked to her bathroom and stood in front of the mirror, her eyes blazing with fury.
