He re-read the email three times, each time feeling the sting of rejection sharper. Every word, a tiny hammer blow against his carefully constructed confidence. Andrew’s jaw tightened, and he felt a knot form in his stomach. He wanted to shout, to rail against the injustice of it all.

He pushed his chair back from the desk, the scrape of the wheels against the floor a grating sound. He walked to the window, his back to the room, and stared out at the gray sky. He wanted to throw something, break something, anything to alleviate the pressure building inside. He was shaking.
