The chipped mug slammed onto the kitchen counter, sloshing lukewarm coffee onto the speckled surface. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air, a scene of infuriating normalcy. Liam stood there, chest heaving, his jaw clenched so tight he felt a vein throbbing in his temple. Across from him, Sarah, the traitorous Sarah, was fiddling with a sugar packet, eyes downcast.

"Across the country? That's… that's not even a *thing* to spring on someone," he spat, his voice laced with acid. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, leaving it standing on end. "We were supposed to… what about the concert next month?"

Sarah finally looked up, her expression a mix of nervousness and something else he couldn't decipher. "I know, I know. It all happened so fast."
