The bank statement fluttered in Amelia's trembling hand. Six figures. Six figures she didn't know existed, stashed away in an account her husband, Daniel, had kept hidden for… how long? Her breath hitched. The scent of coffee, normally comforting in the morning, now felt cloying. Her jaw clenched, the muscles tight against her cheekbones. “Daniel!” she bellowed, her voice echoing unnaturally in their usually quiet kitchen.

She crumpled the paper, the sharp edges digging into her palm. He would be in the shower, as always. She stormed towards the bathroom, ignoring the way her leg muscles throbbed with each hurried step. She ripped open the shower curtain. Steam billowed, obscuring him momentarily. Then, the water stopped, and he turned, his face shocked.

“What is the meaning of this?” she demanded, her voice low and dangerous. She shoved the statement at him. He stared, his face draining of color. The silence screamed louder than any accusation.
