"Unbelievable." Sarah’s voice was a low growl, as she watched the removal trucks backing up to Mrs. Davies's house. Boxes upon boxes were being loaded, furniture, antiques, things she couldn't even name. She’d always believed Mrs. Davies was struggling, just like her.

She had been saving every penny, sacrificing everything, to try to provide for her kids. She looked at her own small, cramped house. The disparity was blinding. She remembered the shared cups of coffee, the small talk about how hard things were.

She slammed the door shut, the sound echoing through her silent home. She felt as though something in her had snapped. The air felt heavy, suffocating. She wanted to scream, to smash something.
