He had the audacity to suggest it was a *mutual benefit*! As if the removal of the tree wouldn't irrevocably change the very fabric of her existence. He'd stood there, oblivious, while the air around her thickened with a rage she couldn’t quite contain.

The world seemed to sharpen around the edges, colors becoming impossibly vibrant. She needed to sit down, or she was certain she was going to crumble. The thought of that tree, reduced to sawdust and splinters, sent a jolt of pain through her chest.

She went inside, and sat at her kitchen table, staring out the window, at the very tree he wanted to kill.
