The dog started barking, a high-pitched, frantic yelp that mirrored her own internal state. Eleanor ran to the window, peering through the blinds at the chaos next door. A flurry of activity, men shouting, machines roaring – it was a symphony of disruption.

She’d been attempting to write a blog post, a task that normally brought her joy. Now, the words swam before her eyes, illegible and meaningless. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, but she couldn’t summon the strength to type a single word. Her breath hitched in her throat, a choked sob.

She walked to the kitchen, seeking the solace of a cup of tea, but the kettle's whistling sounded like a siren, a signal of impending doom. Everything felt too much, too overwhelming, too difficult. She went back to bed.
