The silence in the car was a physical weight, pressing down on Ethan. He glanced at Leo, who was staring out the window, his jaw clenched, the phone call still fresh in Ethan's mind. The familiar streets blurred into an indistinguishable stream. Every curve in the road seemed to mirror the confusion in his head.

He gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles ached. He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, as if a physical blow had been delivered. The comfortable intimacy they once shared had evaporated. The calls, the secrecy, had created an impenetrable barrier between them. He felt a deep, abiding ache.

He pulled over to the side of the road, the car vibrating with the idling engine. "What's going on?" Ethan asked, his voice raw. Leo didn't answer, his silence a crushing answer in itself.
