Gemotions

The world seemed to spin. Amelia stumbled backward, her hand flying to her mouth. She'd been juggling a demanding job, two children, and a rapidly crumbling marriage. The car was her only escape, her only chance to grab a few moments of peace, driving with the windows down. It was gone.

She sank onto the porch step, the wood cold against her skin. The sunlight felt harsh, too bright. Her breath came in short, shallow gasps. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to fight back the rising tide of panic.

"No," she whispered, the sound lost in the morning breeze. This was not happening. This could not be happening. It wasn't fair.
