The phone rang, shattering the fragile peace of the morning. His editor, full of apologies, confirming the error. He listened to the apologies, the excuses, the promises of correction, but he couldn't shake the feeling of devastation. He held the phone away from his ear, a shudder running through him.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to flee. He stood up, his legs feeling weak, and looked around his apartment. He grabbed a jacket, anything, and walked out the door. He began walking, not sure where he was going. He just needed to be away from this suffocating feeling.
