The request popped up during a company meeting, the chime cutting through the monotonous drone of the presentation. David King. The air suddenly grew thin, and Sarah felt as though she couldn't breathe. The speaker's words faded away; only the name registered. He had always been the bane of her existence in high school.

She excused herself and fled the conference room, needing to escape the suffocating presence of that name on her screen. Her legs felt weak as she walked down the hall, and she leaned against a wall for support, her hand trembling. The world swam around her as if she were viewing it through a prism.

She felt cornered, unable to think or function, every inch of her body wanting to flee. She felt the sudden urge to just run, to disappear into the vast anonymous city. She couldn't believe this was happening.
