Gemotions

The constant hum of the office computers had turned into a deafening roar. Sarah felt a pressure behind her eyes, a dull throb that worsened with each passing hour. She couldn't concentrate on the report. Her mind kept returning to the news she had received. A junior colleague, someone barely out of college, was earning more than she was, even though she had been working there for three years.

The color drained from her face. She felt like someone had punched the wind out of her. Her fingers trembled as she typed, her words losing all meaning as they appeared on the screen. She needed to escape. She needed to disappear.

She pushed back from her desk, the chair screeching against the floor. She needed a distraction. She grabbed her bag and walked out, not bothering to inform anyone where she was going.
