"I can't," Sarah whispered, clutching the wallet to her chest. It was stuffed, overflowing with money. The sight of it made her head spin. She had been on the cusp of losing everything, and this… this was an impossibility.

Her apartment was dark, the only illumination coming from the streetlights filtering through the blinds. She paced, back and forth, the sound of her own footsteps filling the cavernous silence.

She felt a knot forming in her stomach, a tightness she couldn't quite place. It clawed at her insides, twisting and turning. She sank to the floor, the cold tile a welcome relief against the internal heat.
