The tiny apartment felt smaller, the walls closing in. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air, but Sarah could only see the mess. Dishes piled in the sink, laundry overflowing the hamper, the half-finished knitting project sprawled across the sofa. And now, Michael wanted a hamster.

Her breath hitched. She hadn't even finished unpacking from the last move, and now this… responsibility. She chewed on her lip, a nervous habit. The idea of yet another thing to take care of made her stomach churn.

"I… I don't know, Michael," she mumbled, pushing stray strands of hair behind her ears. His enthusiasm felt like a pressure she couldn’t bear.
