Gemotions

The phone rang, shattering the fragile peace of the evening. It was Emily, excitedly talking about a new cat, a fluffy Persian. His fingers tightened around the phone. He was already struggling.

He listened, the blood draining from his face. She rambled on about the cat’s personality, the toys, the joy it would bring. He felt a cold sweat break out on his forehead. He just couldn't.

He glanced around at the apartment, the clutter, the unfinished projects. He didn't even have time to breathe, let alone care for a cat.

"Em… I… maybe we should talk about this later," he finally managed, his voice a strained whisper.
