Sweat beaded on Emily’s forehead, despite the chill of the air conditioning. The brightly lit art gallery, usually a source of calm, now felt like a pressure cooker. She'd tracked him for a month, hoping to stumble upon him naturally, but this felt right. A gallery opening, a shared passion. But when she’d spoken, all of the carefully constructed plans evaporated.

She approached him, a tentative smile plastered on her face. "David?"

He'd looked at her, tilting his head. "I'm sorry, do I know you?" His eyes were a startling blue, as bright and distant as the ocean.

Her breath hitched. She was suddenly and completely unable to function. The canvas, his artwork, blurred before her eyes, blurring everything she once knew.
