Gemotions

The scent of burnt coffee filled the small apartment, a familiar smell that usually brought comfort, but today it just added to the general sense of unease. Her breathing was shallow, rapid, as she stood in the cramped kitchen. The walls seemed to be closing in. A letter, its envelope yellowed with age, lay on the counter, barely visible beneath a pile of unopened junk mail. She picked it up, her fingers tracing the faded ink of her younger self: "Dear Diary, I can't keep all these plates spinning..."
