A wave of heat washed over David as he watched Sarah stride confidently into the board room. The mahogany table gleamed, reflecting the harsh lighting, mirroring the anxiety twisting his gut. He had prepared meticulously, but seeing her poise, he felt his carefully constructed arguments crumble.

His palms were slick with sweat. He fumbled with his tie, loosening it. It didn't help. A dull thud echoed in his chest. A feeling of pressure, a vise, was tightening around him.

“You alright, Dave?” his colleague, Emily, asked, concern etched on her face. He swallowed hard and managed a weak smile, wishing the ground would open up and swallow him whole.
