The constant vibrations of the bass had become a physical presence, a tangible force pressing against his ribs. He felt pinned down, suffocated. He wanted the noise to just *stop*, he wanted to disappear.

He'd tried to reason with his neighbor, but all he got was a shrug and a smirk. The complaints to the landlord only resulted in more resentment. He felt like the air was too thick, too heavy to breathe. He felt it was suffocating.

He wandered through his apartment, his steps aimless and unsteady. Each object seemed to mock him, the comfortable sofa, the well-stocked bookshelves, the life he had built, now overshadowed by the relentless pounding.
