Gemotions

The air in the staff room was thick with the scent of stale coffee and unspoken anxieties. Mr. Peterson slumped in his chair, the glow of the computer screen reflected in his weary eyes. The constant pressure of deadlines and expectations threatened to suffocate him. He felt as if a heavy cloak was draped over him.

A large, padded envelope, addressed to him, had arrived. Inside he found a well-worn, hardcover book, a classic novel he’d mentioned to his students he liked. A note, tucked inside, simply stated, "For you." The sender: Maria, a student known for her sharp wit and independent spirit.

He picked up the book, its familiar weight surprisingly comforting. He found himself thinking about Maria. The room, which moments ago had felt constricting, began to feel less so. He took a long, steadying breath.
