"Hello?" The tremor in her voice was unmistakable. She was on the phone to her lawyer. "Yes, about the fence. The proposed fence." Her voice was a strained whisper.

The attorney's calming tone did little to settle her rapidly escalating anxiety. She found herself wringing her hands, twisting them until her knuckles cracked. The details – the height, the materials, the potential impact on property value – swirled around her like a vortex.

She knew she had to remain calm, to be logical. But all she could visualize was the encroaching wood, the loss of openness. The air in her chest grew heavy, and breathing became a monumental task. She was losing control, bit by bit.
