The office supplies seemed to mock him. John stared at the boxes stacked in the corner, a constant reminder of his coming departure. The introduction of the new hire brought a fresh layer of unease. His stomach felt twisted, as if tied in knots.

He forced a smile as he tried to explain the complexities of the project. His voice sounded thin and reedy. He felt a sudden, urgent need to escape. He looked at the window; the outside world beckoned.

"Now, the key here is…" he trailed off, struggling to find the words. The clock on the wall seemed to be ticking faster, each second an eternity. He felt trapped.
