Sweat beaded on Liam’s forehead, despite the airport’s frigid air conditioning. He clutched his phone, repeatedly refreshing the flight status. Delayed. Again. His sister's wedding, the reason for this absurd cross-country journey, was slated to begin in three hours. He pictured the church, the floral arrangements, his sister’s beaming face. He pictured missing it all. A low groan escaped his lips. He started pacing, back and forth, the polished floor reflecting his frantic movements.

He slammed his fist against the information desk, startling the attendant. “When will this damn plane take off?!” he barked, his voice tight with desperation. The attendant, unfazed, merely shrugged and pointed towards the departures board, displaying the same infuriating news. Liam took a deep breath, trying to regain some semblance of composure. He knew he was being irrational, but the feeling in his gut was a relentless, twisting knot.
