Gemotions

The interview was scheduled for tomorrow. Sarah, trying to focus, stared blankly at the spreadsheets, but the numbers swam before her eyes, blurring and shifting. Her palms were slick with sweat, and a dull ache throbbed behind her temples. The thought of facing Emily, of pretending everything was normal, was almost too much.

She chewed on the inside of her cheek, a nervous habit she hadn't realized she still had. Every click of the mouse, every rustle of paper, sounded amplified in the oppressive silence of her small office. Sarah pictured the interview, the potential questions, the judging looks.

The coffee she had poured sat untouched, growing cold. Each time the phone rang, she jumped, heart leaping into her throat. She couldn't breathe. She just couldn’t.
