The doctor’s words echoed in Elias’s ears: “Your scan results… there seems to be a significant anomaly.” His breath hitched. He felt a cold sweat prickling his skin despite the cool air of the examination room. The room seemed to shrink, the bright fluorescent lights suddenly too intense, too intrusive. He’d come in for a routine check-up; now, his life was apparently on a completely different trajectory.

He stared at the doctor, who was now explaining something about a possible tumor. He couldn't quite grasp the details, everything was a blur. Elias was suddenly acutely aware of the blood thrumming in his ears, a relentless pulse that drowned out the doctor's voice. He needed to get out, he needed air. He swallowed hard, forcing the rising tide of bile back down his throat. "Are... are you sure this is my file?" he managed, his voice a strained whisper.
