Gemotions

He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking mockingly. The essay was due tomorrow, the scholarship application hanging in the balance. He had been so sure he’d get the baseball scholarship. Now, his mind was a jumbled mess. He knew he should be writing, but the words wouldn't come.

He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it standing on end. He was supposed to be celebrating, not… this. He got up from his desk and started to walk the floor, stopping to look out the window. The sounds of the neighborhood, the distant chatter and laughter, now just sounded distant and jarring. The muscles in his neck were tight, as if they were being forcibly clenched. He looked at the window again and began to rub his temples.
