He slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the silent apartment. *Jessica Reynolds*. He couldn’t even bring himself to look at the screen again. His palms were slick, and he wiped them on his jeans. He felt a cold sweat prickle his skin.

He needed to get out, he realized. He grabbed his keys and practically ran out the door, the urgency propelling him forward. The street, usually a source of calm for him, offered no solace. Every face he passed seemed to be judging him.

He walked aimlessly, avoiding eye contact, desperate to escape the phantom feeling of her presence. The thought of her, the memory of her taunts, was a physical weight on his shoulders. He didn't know where to go.
