The party was in full swing, music blared, and the room was filled with laughter and chatter. Ben was trying to enjoy it. But it was impossible. He knew she had been learning, but tonight was different. He could hear it in her animated conversations with his friends, her perfect Cantonese.

He went to the balcony to try to get some air. He needed the cool air on his face. He felt trapped. The noise inside seemed to be getting louder. He looked down at his shaking hands.

The door opened behind him, and she came out. She smiled at him. "Having fun?"

He turned away.
