He stared at the open wallet in his trembling hands, the crisp bills almost glowing under the fluorescent lights of the bus station. A cold sweat beaded on his forehead, and his vision swam. He clutched the wallet tighter, as if it might disappear if he released his grip. The announcement for his connecting train blared over the intercom, a mechanical voice that seemed to mock his indecision. He wanted to run, to vanish into the crowd, but the weight of the cash held him rooted to the spot.
