“Sir? Are you alright?” The shopkeeper’s voice pulled him back to the present. He’d been staring at the wallet, completely oblivious to the line forming behind him. His pulse thrummed in his ears, drowning out the gentle chatter of the other customers. He managed a strained smile, a feeble attempt to appear normal, but his voice cracked as he stammered, “Yes, fine. Just… thinking.” He needed to get out of there, away from the prying eyes, away from this constant feeling of being watched.
