The embossed invitation felt heavy in Maya's hand, a physical weight matching the one that had settled in her chest. Thirteen years. Thirteen years since she'd walked those hallowed halls, since she'd endured the gossip and the judgment. Now, it was all coming back.

She chewed her lip, the paper crinkling slightly. Her apartment, usually a haven of calm, suddenly felt too small, the walls closing in. She glanced at the overflowing laundry basket, the stack of unread books, the dust motes dancing in the afternoon sun, all reminders of the life she hadn't quite put together. "Oh, God," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The thought of facing them, the "successful" ones, the ones who'd seemed to have it all figured out, made her stomach churn. Her gaze flickered to the mirror, and she recoiled slightly at what she saw – a stranger, weary and unsure.
